This is a good question… because noone is sure when he was born… not even which year he was born… or where he was born!
the year he was born was 1567 in brouage france i am also doing a school project and it sucks lol

I was serious… Experts agree that the date of birth of Samuel de Champlain is not known. So… if you found the date of 1567, it is wrong. Moreover, experts now believe that 1567 is very unlikely to be his date of birth and they think that he was more likely born around 1580.

Wow, everyone has this wrong. How come in the Governor Generals Residence they have him as the First Governor General of Canada? The only person to serve 2 terms, with a gap of 4 years in between because he was in Jail back in France? That is what was said when we toured the Governor Generals mansion. Now he is the ONLY one that doesn’t have a family crest as well, although we were told during the tour that he was given one after his death. Strange but true. Skennen’kowa

do any of you guys know when he was born?
where did he go on a voyage and what were his discoveries i cant seem to find the information
christine what makes experts think that he was most likely born in the 1580’s? I also need a map of his voyage from france to Quebec.
I have not read anything indicating that he stopped somewhere on the way from France to Quebec.
He started his expeditions from Honfleur, a nice little harbor in Normandy.
Good question on why experts think he was more likely born in the 1580s. I don’t remember reading the specific answer to that question, but I would have to say - from my readings - that they came to that conclusion based on the dates of his first expedition to the Carribeans, and expeditions to North America, in relation to his likely age at the time, and how it related to the known dates of historic events such as the death of Henry IV, and also what we know about the life of his father and uncle.

Because all the serious historians have written about this fact , iin many papers, books and publications, ncluding a big book, dedicated to Champlan and written a couple of years ago, by a group of historians, and which sits right on my shelves at home!

im doing a school project to (wow teachers have the same idea) and actually his birth in 1567 is the best guest scientist have made and im not getting a clear answer of prescisly were he went and what indians lived there before -really frusterating :p) anyway help christine or anybody else
